Dreamed about your ex again?

You woke up and for a second it felt real. The dream isn't a sign - but the feeling it left is worth looking after.

What's going on

Dreaming about an ex is extremely common, especially in the weeks and months after a breakup. Your mind processes big emotional events while you sleep, and someone who was central to your life for a long time is bound to show up.

A dream about getting back together, or about them with someone else, doesn't predict anything or mean you're secretly not over it. It usually reflects what you're working through - longing, worry, unfinished feelings - not what's going to happen.

Try this in the next hour

  1. Before you check your phone, take a minute to notice what the dream left you feeling. Name it.

  2. Write down the dream if it's sticking with you. Getting it out of your head helps it fade.

  3. Don't treat it as a sign to reach out. Dreams aren't messages from them.

  4. Do something grounding early in the day - a shower, a walk, breakfast - before the dream can set the tone.

What usually makes it worse

Messaging them because 'I had a dream about you'. It feels meaningful at 7 a.m., but it usually opens a door you've been working to close.

Questions people ask in this moment

Does dreaming about my ex mean I still love them?

Not necessarily. It mostly means your mind is still processing the relationship. Dreams draw on strong memories, and someone you were close to will appear in them for a while.

Will the dreams stop?

For most people they become less frequent as time passes and life fills with new experiences. They may still appear occasionally, usually with much less emotional weight.
