Privacy

moveonfromyourex is an emotionally oriented conversational companion. It is not therapy, telehealth, or medical advice. Nothing here diagnoses or treats conditions.

• Chat: what you write and the replies we generate. Messages are sent to AI providers only as needed to produce a reply.
• The companion's memory: short notes the companion keeps (like “week two of no contact”) so it can stay consistent with you. See the memory section below.
• Account identity: your sign-in provider (Google or email) and profile details, so your conversations stay private to your account.
• Recovery tools: your check-ins, private notes (“Write it down”), program progress, and streaks.
• Conversations before you sign up: if you chat without an account, the conversation is tied to an anonymous session in your browser until you save it to an account.
• Chat exports you upload (Premium): a WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram or Instagram export is read in memory to pull out the conversation, then discarded - the file itself is never stored. Only the text you choose to send becomes part of your chat. Exports include the other person's messages, so only upload conversations you were part of.
• Stories you choose to share: short stories you post to “You're not alone” are read by a person before they go up and are shown anonymously (for example “Someone on day 42”) - never with your name or email.
• Email: your address, to send emails about your account and, only if you opt in, reminders and occasional updates. See the email section below.
• Payments: handled by a secure payment provider; we see that you have an active subscription, never your card details.
• Feedback and testimonials: only published publicly with your explicit consent (first name or nickname at most).
• Analytics: anonymous usage analytics only after you consent via the cookie banner.

• To provide the product you asked for (contract): your account, chat, check-ins, notes, payments, and emails about your account.
• With your consent: analytics cookies, and reminder and update emails - withdraw any time, as easily as you gave it.
• Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure and preventing abuse or fraud.

We do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your chat content for advertising.

As you talk, the companion quietly keeps short notes - like “week two of no contact” or what you are trying to stop replaying - so it can stay consistent across your conversations. These notes only ever surface inside your own chats, are not shared with anyone, and you can see and clear them any time under Settings (“What the companion remembers”). Clearing them is immediate and permanent; deleting your account removes them too.

• About your account (from hello@moveonfromyourex.com): a welcome, payment and subscription notices, and the confirmation that your account was deleted. These are part of the service.
• Reminders and updates (from updates.moveonfromyourex.com and news.moveonfromyourex.com): for example that your daily messages are back, a gentle check-in, a no-contact milestone, or an occasional note about what's new. Only if you opt in - it's off by default. Every one has a one-click unsubscribe, and you can change this any time inSettings. We pause them for a few days if a conversation suggests you are going through something serious.
• What we keep: a short log of which emails we sent you, so we never send the same one twice. Entries are deleted after 30 days, except the record that you received the welcome and the one-time “still here” email, which we keep while your account exists. For updates sent to many people we also keep a one-way fingerprint (a hash) of your address, so two accounts sharing one address get one email; it is deleted 30 days after that update finishes sending, or when you delete your account.

We use a small number of service providers, each only for its job and under contract: hosting and database providers (to store your account and conversations), AI model providers (to generate replies - they receive the messages needed for a reply), a payment provider (for subscriptions), an email delivery provider (to send the emails above), and an analytics provider (only after you consent). We don't sell your data or share it for advertising.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active, and delete it when you delete your account. Deletion covers your chat history, notes, check-ins, memories, stories you shared, email history, and profile. We retain a minimal record of the deletion itself (the email, the date, and the fact that the account was deleted) for up to 7 years so we can honor data requests and prevent fraud - that record contains no chat content.

Conversations started without an account and never saved to one are deleted after 30 days without activity.

• Export your data: download a file copy of your account, check-ins, notes, chats, and memories under Settings (“Export my data”).
• Delete your account: under Settings (“Delete my account”). Deletion starts immediately and completes within 24 hours.
• Access, correction, and other requests: email hello@moveonfromyourex.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live you may have additional rights (for example under the GDPR in the European Economic Area, the CCPA in California, or India's DPDP Act). We honor them regardless of where you are. See our GDPR, CCPA, and DPDP rights pages for the details.

The product is intended for people 18 and older, and you confirm that you are 18 or older when you start a conversation or sign in. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has used the product, contact us and we will delete the data.

Every conversation is tied to a private session - an anonymous one on your browser until you create an account, then your account - data is transmitted over encrypted connections, the companion's memory stays inside your own conversations, and access controls and audit logging are in place for anyone operating the service. No internet service can promise absolute confidentiality - please do not share information you could not afford to repeat if a breach occurred.

If personal data is ever compromised, we will notify affected users and the relevant authorities as required by law (within 72 hours where the GDPR or India's DPDP Act applies).

We use necessary storage for sign-in and preferences, and anonymous usage analytics only after you consent. You can change your mind any time from the cookie banner or the cookie policy.

If you choose to share feedback or a testimonial, we only feature it publicly with your permission, using a first name or nickname at most - never your email or chat content. You can share without consenting to any public use.
