What's going on
No contact often gets harder before it gets easier. The first sharp days are survivable on adrenaline; it's the second or third week, when the shock wears off and the silence feels permanent, that the urge gets loud. That doesn't mean it isn't working. It usually means it is.
Breaking no contact is rarely about one message. It's about what happens next: checking for the reply, re-reading the thread, and resetting the clock on the part of you that was starting to settle. The question isn't 'would one text hurt?' but 'what would the next three days look like after I send it?'
Try this in the next hour
Say out loud what triggered this one - a song, a date, a photo, being tired. Urges have triggers, and triggers can be planned for.
Count how many days you've held it. Then ask whether one reply from them is worth giving those days up.
Text a friend instead, even just 'I'm having a no-contact moment'. The urge often wants contact, not that specific contact.
If you need to get the words out, write them somewhere they can't be sent - a journal, a note, or the chat here.
What usually makes it worse
Breaking no contact 'just to see how they are'. It feels small and neutral, but it usually opens the exact loop you started no contact to close.

Questions people ask in this moment
Does breaking no contact once ruin everything?
No. It resets some of the emotional momentum, but it doesn't erase the days you held. What matters most is what you do in the 24 hours after - not adding a second message, and restarting the boundary.
How long should no contact last?
There's no magic number. Many people aim for at least 30 days so the strongest wave of urges can pass, but the better measure is whether you could see a message from them without your whole day tilting.
