They moved on so fast it feels unreal?

Their speed isn't a measure of what you meant - or of how you should be doing by now.

What's going on

When an ex moves on quickly, it can feel like the relationship is being rewritten in real time - as if it was easy to leave, as if you were never that important. That's one of the most painful parts of a breakup, and it's very common.

But moving on quickly and healing quickly aren't the same thing. Some people check out emotionally long before the actual ending. Others jump into something new to avoid feeling the loss at all. Neither tells you much about your worth.

Try this in the next hour

  1. Write down what you're actually comparing - their timeline against yours. Then remind yourself that you can only see the outside of theirs.

  2. Notice the thought 'I meant nothing'. Is that something you know, or something the hurt is saying?

  3. Pick one thing today that's about your own life, not your reaction to theirs.

  4. If you keep refreshing their updates, mute them for a while. You don't have to watch their next chapter.

What usually makes it worse

Rushing into dating to 'even the score'. It rarely feels the way you hope, and it skips the part where you actually get better.

Questions people ask in this moment

Why did my ex move on so quickly?

Common reasons include having emotionally left the relationship earlier, avoiding grief, fear of being alone, or a connection that started before the end. You may never know which, and you don't need to in order to heal.

Is there a normal amount of time to get over someone?

No single timeline fits everyone. It depends on the length of the relationship, how it ended, and what else is going on in your life. Slow isn't wrong.

If you're thinking about hurting yourself or you're not safe, please contact local emergency services or see our crisis resources first.
