They unfollowed you, or blocked you?

It can feel like being erased. It's also, quietly, one less window to stare through.

What's going on

Being blocked or unfollowed can feel cold and final, like the last thread snapping. It's normal for it to bring up anger, rejection, or panic - especially if the breakup felt unfinished.

People block for many reasons: to protect themselves from checking you, to stop themselves reaching out, because a new partner asked, or because they're hurting too. It often has as much to do with their healing as with you.

Try this in the next hour

  1. Resist the urge to check from another account to see if it's 'really' a block.

  2. Notice what you're feeling under the sting - rejection, anger, relief? Name it before you act on it.

  3. Consider returning the favour quietly: mute or unfollow on your side too, not to make a point, but to stop half-checking.

  4. Let it be a clean break you didn't have to choose. Sometimes that's easier than one you do.

What usually makes it worse

Reaching out through a friend, another app, or email to ask why. Even if you get an answer, it rarely gives the relief you're hoping for.

Questions people ask in this moment

Does blocking mean they still have feelings?

Sometimes - blocking can be self-protection. Sometimes it just means they want distance. It's not a reliable signal either way, so it's not worth building hope or hurt on.

Should I block them back?

Only if it helps you. If you keep checking anyway, muting or blocking on your side can make the distance easier to keep.

If you're thinking about hurting yourself or you're not safe, please contact local emergency services or see our crisis resources first.
